How to recover a corrupted video file (Xiro or others)

Post by m15alien » Sun Mar 13, 2016 12:55 pm

The issue:

This morning i just had a good relaxing flight, but after the Xiro landing, i was so relaxed that i forgot to stop the camera rec before switching off the Xiro quad.
Result: the video recorded file was corrupted. ( I remember there was also a warning in the manual).
Any clues to recover the corrupted files ? ----->

SOLUTION 01 (thanks to the support of FrozenZiro and Moonjet from RCgroups.com forum)

Check in the Xiro FAQ manual, chapter Cameras and Video Q5
Q5 - Why video file cannot be opened or damaged?
A: User need to stop recording before turn off the aircraft power, if not, the video file can be damaged.
Workaround: user can try to reinsert the SD card with damage video files back into the aircraft and wait sometime after power on, XPLORER will automatically try to repair damaged video files.
If SOLUTION 01 does not work, than check solution 02 (successfully tested).

SOLUTION 02

The right tool that does the magic is: Video Repair Software http://grauonline.de/cms2/?page_id=5

This great software is free in DEMO version: the repaired files are only half the size of the repaired movie files in full-mode! (e.g. if the DEMO version repairs 50 MB, the full version will repair 100 MB).

To recover the Xiro corrupted video (half video in demo mode) you need to have:

01 the Video Repair Software
02 the corrupted video
03 a good video with the same settings of the corrupted one (this is called the reference video)

All the best.

Did you have success with this? Or do you still have the problem?

I tested both solutions. Happily both worked. A day after filming I let the camera automatically fix the corrupted file. This was the best option - no cost! :D

I've tried every method possible and was wondering if anyone knows of any tool that canrepair .mov files? I can't convert the .mov to .avi and repair the .avi, because the .mov isn't recognized, so that's out of the question.

If anyone knows of anything short of mailing it to a data recovery company to try to repair as a last resort, please let me know.
