Range Extender Aerials.

Post by baboon99 » Wed Apr 06, 2016 10:14 pm

Found these on aliexpress...
Asked seller what range they are suppose to get from using them. he stated 1000m.... :D
But I am skeptical about this, But I know someone on RCGroups added 2 aerials to the wifi extender and added an external aerial to the xiro too.

I would also be interested in how these work. Wonder what the furthest distance anyone has gotten with the Xiro?

The main thing you guy's have got to be weary of is that even though the controller will have those bad boy's on it increasing its send/receive distance the aircraft still only has it's smaller antenna. The communication between the controller and the aircraft is a two way stream so you might not get what is expected.

You would get the same when you put a 25dbi antenna on your wireless router at home you will be able to see your wireless network a few blocks down the road, but because the laptop/phone still only has a small antenna you would not be able to connect.

Sorry to put a downer on this but it might still increase what is standard distance.

Took a photo of my flight system to show connectors.
But not sure what connector is 2.4 and 5.8ghz.
The cables go into the small aerial spikes underneath the xiro, there is 3 in total.

Maybe get the compatible cable and retro fit something like these Image

Again, does anyone know if the xiro will stop moving away from you at 600 meters like it does going up to 120 meters. Or do we really have the option to mod the antennas to go as far as we want? I really want to test this but am still waiting for my xiro to be sent back to me.

Just found this video on youtube. Guy shows how to override the 120meter altitude limit. I am not condoning this in the united states but thought it was interesting. When max height is reached, hit RTH button and then hold left stick up. It will continue to climb past 120meters.
